A Celebration of 25 Years of the Black & Red

On February 14, 1992, Hartford Hospital hosted its first Black & Red Ball. Benefiting babies with heart problems, the first Black & Red event more than doubled the organizing committee’s goal of $50,000, raising $110,000 through the sale of 400 tickets and outright donations of $40,000.

Today, the hospital’s signature fundraiser is simply the Black & Red. The ball has become a gala, bringing nearly 1,200 guests to The Bushnell for a dynamic night of entertainment, dining, dancing, and honors. Since 2013 the event has raised $1 million each year for its chosen beneficiary . Over the past 25 years, $10 million has been raised. The growth of the gala is a direct reflection of the generosity of Hartford Hospital’s community and its dedication to the well-being of those we serve.

Bone & Joint 9.12.2014

Funds raised through the 2016 Black & Red will benefit the Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital.  Under construction at Retreat Avenue and Seymour Street in Hartford, the Bone & Joint Institute will bring innovative, coordinated orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care into one facility, integrating all elements of treatment, including primary and specialty care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, rheumatology, neurology, and pain management.

For information on how you may sponsor the event, please review our Sponsorship Opportunities Guide, or please contact Carla Burgess at 860.972.1932 or carla.burgess@hhchealth.org

2016 Black & Red Entertainment

Considered one of the longest running, most successful pop/rock ‘n’ roll groups in history, Chicago is the highest charting American band (#13) in Billboard Magazine’s Top 100 artists of all time. Lifetime achievements include a Grammy Award, American Music Awards, elected as Founding Artists to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and Keys to and Proclamations from an impressive list of US cities.

Formed in 1967, the “legendary rock band with horns” released their first album “Chicago Transit Authority” in 1969; the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2014. Since then, they have had record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive #1 albums, 11 #1 singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 36 albums have been certified platinum, with a total of 47 gold and platinum awards. Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six decades. Chicago's latest record is “NOW” CHICAGO XXXVI, released on Frontiers Records and includes eleven new songs. Chicago has built a new recording system that is flexible, portable, powerful and musical. This new “recording rig” travels with the band.
